FRONT YARD GARDEN IS UNDER ATTACK!

Nobody in our area….with the exception of greenhouse owners….is thinking about an outdoor garden in January….wait— wait…the seed catalogs have come, so I take it all back about northerners like us not thinking about our gardens.
But we have to have summmer gardens.
In Orlando, Florida a young couple—Jason and Jennifer Helvenston—who live in College Park are being harassed by Orlando city officials because they planted a vegetable garden in their modest front yard.
The city of Orlando has threatened fines if the Helvenstons do not uproot their vegetable garden by Thursday (Jan 10).
Jason and Jennifer are launching a “Plant a Seed, Change the Law” protest against this strange Orlando city law. The couple say the city law violates their constitutional right to peacefully use their property (they own it) to grow their own food.
In interveiws with Orlando’s channel 6 Jason Helvenston said the following:

“The greatest freedom you can give someone is the freedom to know they will not go hungry. Our Patriot Garden pays for its costs in healthy food and lifestyle while having the lowest possible carbon footprint. It supplies food while being attractive . I really do not understand why there is even a discussion. They will take our house before our Patriot Garden.”

According to the report from clickorlando.com also says that hundreds of emails have come in supporting the Helvenston’s front yard vegetable garden.
According to a an attorney for the Institute for Justice, the Patriot Garden is due for inspection and the couple will be fined 500 dollars a day starting Thursday.
The attorney, Ari Bargil, said his Institute is seriously looking at helping the Helvenstons and urging the city of Orlando to reach a “sensible compromise” .

Sensible. Is anything in government sensible anymore? How will the city of Orlando help itself by making this couple root up their food garden?
It is only because of stupid laws such as this one that we find ourselves in such constant disarray as a nation and as a people.
Many of the “laws” coming out of Washington D.C. are about as insensible as this Orlando city ordinance.
Now that the Gun Control freaks are in full cry, we will probably see many more insensible “laws” that violate our U.S. constitutional rigfht to bear arms since the current crop of out- of- control- legislators—- (maybe we need Legislator-Control laws more than gun control laws of which there are multitudes already)..will no doubt try to pass even more gun control and even gun confiscation. That would go over like a turd in a punchbowl in this country. But people like Dianne Feinstein have their heads up such dark places they do not even know what the people of this country value….we value our constutional rights is what we value.
Back to Orlando and the Forbidden Garden:
Orlando city officials are under attack themselves from people who support the Patriot Garden of the Helvenstons.. and these supporters are amassing protests against city government and city officials (easily scared by citizen reproach) who are saying now that the “case is on hold” but the city did not elaborate and provided no more details.
Scared rabbits…..that is what the Orlando city government is made up of. Maybe they should go hide in the rows of vegetables that rabbits enjoy in the Patriot Garden.
They know their “law” is about as stupid as it gets but they are trying to enforce it anyway..until Orlando residents got feisty about this silly case of the front yard vegetable garden.

I have thoughts on front yard gardens. I have driven through the neighborhood called “Little Italy” on the south side of Dilworth and have been delighted to see the many front yard gardens there filled with healthy huge tomato and pepper plants grown by those who live in that neighborhood. I have seen other front yard gardens in south Fargo with the same healthy growth of flowers and vegetables.
During World War 2 United States citizens were asked to grow gardens like the one in question. I have read archives from my local newspaper that had articles about the need for EVERYONE to plant a vegetable garden ..enough to feed the family and have enough to “can” and preserve for winter use. People of that era were not just asked they were told to grow vegetable gardens and plots nad seeds and tools were provided. It was just the opposite of the Orlando fools in government..in WW2 the governent provided help for citizens to grow such gardens.
It used to be the way all families lived..back when our times and our nation were truly SENSIBLE.
What we have now is the most distorted and unconstutional wreckage possible.
The present governments…city, state and national–seem to be hell-bent on causing as much conflict and turmoil among citizens as they can possibly cause.
The Orlando case is a microcosm of our entire nation at present.
It is a gloomy, downtroden mini-photo of what we have become via our government laws and regulations that stifle American life and liberty.
