No, I am not becoming a student!
But I had a good reason to visit my old school at LPA on Friday afternoon; my good sidekick and friend…..my wonderful library para-professional offered to let us have 2 really good tickets to today’s Bison game because she and her husband could not go to the game today. So I went “back to school” just as school was ending on Friday.
I saw students and I have no idea who they are; I have been retired for 8 years and all the students I knew are out of the elementary setting. But I know teachers and I saw a few of my good long – time friends yesterday.
It was like we had not been apart for 8 years…we got right back into good conversation and pleasant remembrances of the way things used to be. I reminisced with the mischievous band teacher who would sneak into the one end of the school library when I had a class at the other end and I could see him sitting down at my computer and putting things in there that I would never find due to my relatively low level of computer/techno/geek ways. He would put mischiveous things into it and I never found them. He would sneak by the cook’s bulletin boards in the lunch area and change letters around and make hilarious words and changes much to her discomfort with his odd sense of humor.
We did crossword puzzles after school and laughed ourselves silly over clues like “Hawaiian Goose” (which was always the “Nene”— pronounced knee-knee!!!)
I saw my good friend ..third grade teacher and kindergarten teacher and a few title 1 teachers….it was all good and I have not been forgotten thank goodness!
It was a pleasant trip back to school!!!
Today because I got those tickets I got a further chance to visit with my good kindergarten teacher friend who has seats near the tickets I got! We caught up on a lot of things during the time we watched the Bison game.
Then we had the pleasure of our family’s company. We met one complete family at one of the Pizza Ranches and it was also nothing but good!!!
This morning I got to make Swedish pancakes for a whole bunch of grandkids and kids and they were greatly appreciated.
I am amazed at how early it gets dark now. Fall is falling rapidly and the days are getting shorter.
The days are golden and wonderful but
the evenings are getting short and cold. I am not eagerly anticipating
what comes next in October-December.
But for today—–it was a wonderful day.
Hey – thanks loads for telling us how to pronounce the name of that Hawaiian goose – the nene. I have seen that clue so often because I am a crossword puzzle addict. OF course I could have looked it up to see how it is pronounced but I didn’t.
