A contoversy reared its ugly head at Crookston High School when students there decided to have a “Camo/Animal print” day for dressing up during homecoming week on one day of that week.
The boys were to be dressed in Camoflage outfits and the girls were to wear “animal prints”..in other words it would be Predator/Prey day with the boys as the predators and the girls as the prey.
Well, that went over like a turd in a bowl of punch with certain community members and it was quickly changed to Camo- day for everyone. Nothing quite like having a warlike theme during Homecoming Week at a medium sized valley high school!!!
Scott Hennen weighed in with his opinion on his radio program one day. He thought it was silly to change the day from Camo/Animal Print day and considered it to be a lot of Kerfuffle over nothing–in other words, let ‘er roll as Predator and Prey Day…what the heck??????
I have an even better idea that I think Scott Hennen would highly approve of…..have BLAZE ORANGE DAY. All the boys could wear Blaze Orange hunting clothing (in the eager anticipation of deer hunting season) and the girls would wear brown clothes and a white winter knit hat with a big white pom-pom on the top of the hat. That way the Blaze Orange boys could get the thrill of pre-hunting deer fever by watching all those brown- clad girls with white caps bobbing up and down the halls all day reminding the Hunter Boys of shooting at a white tailed deer. They could even have the boys bring water pistols or pea shooters to practice their aim before hunting season opens.
OR…..build a large duck blind in the school commons area and have the boys dressed up in khaki duck hunting gear, sitting in an empty boat in the duck blind. (with pea shooters of course) Force the girls who would be dressed in bright Mallard – color – feathered sweaters “walk the gauntlet” in front of the school commons area duck blind and get shot at by the boys’ pea shooters. They could even bring a Golden Retriever or a Black Lab into school to chase the Mallard girls down the hallway.
I wish I could know that Scott Hennen would read this blog and start up another conversation about Prey and Predator dress up days on another day on the radio.
I think it is a brilliant idea just like the one the high school kids at Crookston High School originally had.
Lets’ not be so darned politically correct!
