A GERMAN “TAKE” ON LIBYAN SITUATION

Google this one:
“Ghadaffi is Facing a Coalition of the Unwilling” by David Gordon Smith in DER SPEIGEL.

Der Siegel is one of Germany’s leading media outlets. This article also has quotes from a number of Germany’s other news media making the article especially well rounded. Those other outlets include “Die Welt”(conservative view) “The Financial Times of Deutschland” ” Die Tageszeitung” (left leaning)
Suddeutsche Zeitung” (center left) Frankfurter Allgameine Zeitung” (center right).
The political designations are not mine….DER SPIEGEL made the designations.

If you think it was easy to type and spell those news outlets correctly, you are mistaken! I am not at all fluent in the German language!!!!
This is one article that includes many views!!!!!

A GOOD “READ” FOR CONSERVATIVES

NEW SONG: ODYSSEY DAWN

sung to the tune of “Delta Dawn” by Tanya Tucker.

Odyssey Dawn

What’s that flower you have on?

Could it be a broken coalition from days gone by?

And did I hear you say,

Everyone else pulled out today,

To leave us all alone up in the sky?

BEAUTY AND THE BEAST: ELIZABETH TAYLOR

The news is overflowing with Elizabeth Taylor today after her death from heart failure at age 79. She defeated the “Beast” (death ) more than once in her life.
Sometime in 1961 she was nearly pronounced dead from double pneumonia and claimed she had “seen the light” meaning I take it the light that many dying people see as they die. But she lived on to make more films, wed more men, and be a Hollywood icon to the end of her days.
She won an Oscar in 1961 for her role in “Butterfield 8″ but at that time I recall reading that her Oscar was given her because she had nearly died from the pneumonia already mentioned. I never saw many of oher movies although I was a teen ager in the early part of her hey-day. I saw “Lassie Come Home” but do not remember her in it and I saw “Father of the Bride” and I do remember her stunning beauty even in a black and white film.
She was born with a double row of eyelashes (black ones) which enhanced her screen appearance easily. Her blue-violet eyes were also stunning. She had to be one of the most beautiful of Hollywood stars of her era which was loaded with other beautiful women…Janet Leigh, Debbie Reynolds, Jane Powell, Jane Russell, Lana Turner,Marilyn Monroe…the list can go on and on in that era of great beauty being the hallmark for a successful film star. When she was first introduced to film makers at the young age of 9, one person who had participated in her try-outs said “she can’t sing, she can’t dance, she can’t act!” and said that she should not be given any roles in his opinion, but that did not happen. Her beauty could not be wasted even if she lacked the necessary talent for Hollywood movies of the 40′s.
Taylor had many husbands in her lifetime. She broke up the fairytale marriage of Debbie Reynolds and Eddie Fisher and then went on to take up with Richard Burton while she was married to Fisher. I remember hearing a joke in 1962 about Taylor and Fisher. It went like this:
In the middle of the night Eddie wakes up Liz and says “Liz, I have to go to the bathroom.”
Liz is angry at being wakened and she snaps at Eddie “Why are you waking me up to tell me that”.
Eddie replies “I want you to save my place”.

One writer said today that she spent as much time in a hospital bed as she did walking down the aisle. Her many marriages included 7 husbands and 8 marriages..two to Richard Burton. Another observer once said that Mike Todd, who died, was the love of her life…but who knows with so many candidates? Her many marriages came in the times when morality counted a lot more in our culture….now lots of so called stars have multiple shack ups and never marry but Elizabeth married them all….I think! Maybe the one Iranian boyfriend later in her life was the one she did not marry. But all the others were “legal”.
I saw a picture of her with her children and they look like aging people….a testimony to her long life and her many marriages with children from 4 of them.

It is the end of a turbulent life of a real bona fide “Movie Star”.

MORE “BOMBING”…..US AND LIBYA

People in our area wake up after getting “bombed” again by anywhere from 3-18 inches of snow depending on where you live.
Our previously snow-free bluff is totally white again with a few drifts…a big one on our deck. Winter gets “tee-jus” don’t it?
Yesterday it began with hearing the pounding of what looked like tiny balls of hail. Apparently it made roads and highways slippery almost instantly. The sound of the iceballs pounding our windows and roof was weird!!! We have to suck it up and know that at this time of winter, it will not last and the snow could be gone soon..but we have to get through a cold snap first. The only thing I can say on the positive side is that the white covering is preferable to the dirty brown-gray snow we were looking at a day ago. I just hope the coming melt of new snow will not happen too rapidly for the sake of the flood-prone.

This morning’s international news is full of confusion and disiintegration as far as the No- Fly zone and the attacks by a coalition of U.S. and mostly European military land and air forces. The confusion is about who or what entity is going to be in charge of the “operation” now that the US President has declared that it will not be us. There are several articles regarding the international situtation regarding Libya. Criticism and confusion reigns in our own nation as well….several threats of presidential impeachment have been made regarding Obama’s failure to consult Congress before authorizing US forces to take action in the Libyan civil conflict.
The best national news I read this morning is a short article and statement by Mitt Romney in the NATIONAL REVIEW.
Romney stated that, if he were President, the first action he would take (On Day One) would be an executive order paving the way for waivers on Obamacare to all 50 states. He said “An executive order is the first step to return power to the states” (where it belongs in my opinion..especially regarding any healthcare for its citizens). The broad nationalized mish-mash approach of which Nancy Pelosi said “We’ll have to read it to see what’s in it” is a horrendous mistake …and she was one who wrote it! Unbelievable!!!
I recall that both ND senators (Dorgan and Conrad) had a proposal before the Obamacare bill was rammed through the Democratic controlled Congress just one year ago..and that proposal involved states setting up systems of healthcare for smaller regions. It sounded sensible then and even more so now—–after we are learning “what’s in it” (Pelosi).

Hillary Clinton, our secretary of state. was interviewed on ABC by Diane Sawyer on evening news yesterday and said that reports are circulating that the Libyan leader Ghadaffi is exploring–or others are doing it for him—–the possibility of his going into exile somewhere….in Africa or other places who would take him. It could improve things in that beleaguered nation but one wonders if Ghadaffi would be “hands off” even in exile. His latest rantings from a balcony in his badly damaged compound in Tripoli sound like he would be in his “never give up” mode no matter where he went. His cash stash in Libya is into the billions…much of it in a Libyan bank and much of it stowed away somewhere in his compound. He could go on and on with the riches he has stolen from his own people…and continue to pay for mercenaries to fight those who want change in the Libyan government. It is anohter “rathole to pour sand down”, endlessly.

1.”Who;s in charge? Germans pull out……….” ( Mail Online, March 23 2011 by several Mail reporters)
2. Obama seeks to break impasse on Libya” (NYTimes, James Blitz, Dan Dombey &and others, Marc 23, 2011)
Googlers today for news on Libya and the allies of the coalition:

3. “Ghadaffi bombed but not broken” (by Rupert Cornwell and others, in THE INDEPENDENT (UK) 3-23-2011 )

4. “Libya costs, mission unclear” by Shaun Waterman and Ashish Kumar Sen, WASH. TIMES, 3-22-2011)

The disarray of allies over Libya and the continued attacks by Ghaddafi forces seems to take precedence over all other news including the Japanese earthquake and the problems in our own country..budget, healthcare, et al.

ONE ADDITION FOR A GOOD AND MUCH-NEEDED GIGGLE:
“Nude sidewalk showers for PETA meat protest” CBS news Los Angeles.

There is a slide show of the showering and the best ones are of the male onlookers…plus a great picture of a big dog wearing sunglasses!!!

UNTIMELY DEATH: KNUT

All animal lovers(like me) are saddened by the sudden and untimely death of Knut the polar bear who made the Berlin Zoo rich and famous. His birth four years ago at the zoo and the rejection by his mother led to him being nurtured and raised by one of the zookeepers. Knut was bonded to that man and then became depressed and inactive when that zookeeper died of a heart attacck.
Knut’s 4-year life was totally unnatural for a zoo raised bear. Most polar bears in captivity live longer than polar bears in the wild…15-20 years in the wild and longer in captivity. But Knut died suddenly and horribly in front of the usual huge crowd of zoo visitors who came every day of his life to watch his antics in his enclosure.
An article in the UK daily mailonline described the death and the possible circumstances surrounding it. If you want to see the full story google “Knut’s Last Moments…” by Matt Blake in the UK Mailonline for Mar 21, 2011. The title of the article is longer but you should get it with those three words. It is a sad tale and a disturbing one.

Many members of animal rights groups have feared that Knut has been badly handled at the zoo…for one thing when he showed signs of depression after the zookeepers’ death, they put three female polar bears in the enclosure with Knut…for company supposedly but the three females bullied and harassed Knut and distressed him even more. The daily huge crowds of Knut visitors may have even compromised his health according to the Mail article. He showed signs of becoming a “psycho bear”…one who cannot live with out the crowds of specatators. A necropsy may tell the exact cause of death but some on lookers who saw the bear die speculate that it was a brain/nerve thing that killed him. His agony was recorded by one of the specators and I could not look at at. But it is there on the Mail online site article.
Someone has even wondered if someone threw him some food that could have poisoned him. It is a nasty thing to ponder but it could have happened with the daily hordes that came to watch the bear.
The outcome of the necropsy might tell something that the Berlin Zoo will not be happy with, especially if the stress of being such a celebrity bear which the zoo cashed in to the tune of over 6 million British pounds over the 4- year life span is implicated. I have always thought it unnatural to treat animals—-or people… in ways of displaying them.(the Dionne quintuplets of Canada were literally put on display and taken from their family and raised by the Canadian government in a “compound” setting, replete with daily visitors gawking at them.) Most of the Dionne girls lived troubled lives. If you are too young to remember the Dionne quints it is worth a bit of internet searching. I know that books were written about them also. They were born in 1934 I think…and there were no fertility drugs back then. It was a natural occurrence and almost unknown then…thus the extreme publicity. The country doctor who delivered them was mostly responsible for the life they led after their birth and their being made “wards of the national government”…for a lot of profit no doubt.

“Drill, Brazil, Drill!” is the title of an article about President Obama’s visit to that nation just his past few days.
The Investors Business Daily has an article of that title today. It tells of the US Presidents’ offer to finance Brazil’s drilling for oil off their shores and the additional offer for the US to import that oil. He has shut down all US drilling operations which have destroyed jobs galore but he urges Brazil to do what he will not allow in our nation with its vast resources of oil!!!!! It is just another part of the madness that seems to characterize this anchorless President and his policies.

CHUCKLE, CHUCKLE, SNORT, SNORT!

We saw something yesterday that made us chuckle/snort—- a lot!
We were driving east on I 94 through the Fargo corridor..about halfway between 45th St and the I- 29 exchange and came upon a sporty little car (driven by a young guy). The little car was mired in the mud on the grassy area between the westbound and eastbound lanes. Obviously this “smart” fellow had attempted an illegal turn-around and had gotten himself stuck deeply in the mud. When we passed him he was futilely spinning his back wheels that were by then mired down in “potato trenches” at least 2 feet deep. He was frantic!!!! We could not stop and woudln’t have if we could…but we dreamed about a state patrol coming along and finding the “mud puppy” stuck by an illegal turn attempt. I wonder what did happen…he was not going to get out on his own..that was plain to see. Anytime I see some smart aleck getting caught at their stupid tricks it makes me laugh. It reminded me of a very mild version of some of the “tricks” you read about when the awards come out annually for the dumbest possible things done by human beings. But those dumb things often result in serious injury or death. This driver would only suffer humiliation and a stiff fine (I hope).
What a doofus!!!

Here is a very recent update on Libya. It concerns the use of human shields by the Monster to end all other Monsters (Muammar Gadaffi) who is now rounding his own people up and transporting them to sites to ber human shields against the bombs and missiles that have been raining down on his capitol Tripoli. The news item also reports the death of a Ghadaffi son who was caught by a kamikaze Libyan rebel pilot who crashed his plane into a governmnent enclave where the Ghadaffi son was killed.

“For the sins of ther father: Ghadaffi’s son killed in kamikaze pilot attack on barracks” (UK Mail online, March 21, 2011)

SCOTLAND: THE NEW DARK AGE

Yesterday (Sunday) one of our missionary families was with us for fellowship at our church. He and his wife and children serve in northern Scotland at a small new church in Aberdeen, Scotland…about as far north in that nation as you can get. In addition to the perennial cold,, chill and damp in that city there is also a cold chill in the people of Scotland toward Christianity. The mission that our church sponsors is clearly of the true evangelical nature…belief in God’s word, Bible based teaching, emphasis on Biblical salvation, Bible study and youth fellowship. But so far this small mission congregation counts it a good Sunday if 30 people come. It is right next to a church of Scotland Presbyterian church and attendance there is low also. James Galbraith (the missionary) told us that this is the way things have gone in Scotland for decades….there is a new dark age with the Scottish people no longer interested in true spiritual life in their churches or in their homes. He also said there is a definite rise in “other” forms of religion such as old pagan ones, ghosts, witchcraft, etc. But basically the Scots have abandoned their Christian heritage and are uninterested in anything that might be called true Christian Bible-based belief….as they were in early times when John Knox was part of the great Reformation in Europe that also included Martin Luther, Philip Melancthon, and John Calvin to name just three. I was curious enough to look up more information about the decline of the Christian beliefs in the nations that make up Great Britain (England,Wales, Scotland and Ireland). I googled “the decline of Christianity in Great Britian” and found a some good articles which were not recent but very instructive. If interested google these:
1. Churchgoing on its knees as Christianity falls out of favor.” (London Sunday Times, by Ruth Gledhill, May 8, 2008)
2. “Why Britian doesn’t go to church” (BBC, by James Beckford, Feb. 17, 2004)

Our missionary Mr. Galbraith, traced the beginnings of the decline to World War 2 when Britons under heavy attack at the war’s onset, probably looked into themselves and asked the age old question “How could God allow this to happen to us” and lost all heart for Him or for the Christian church.
It was shocking to hear Scotland described as being in deep darkness as far as Christianity was concerned. One tends to think of real “darkness” associated with primitive peoples and places. But all of Britain…and all of Europe..are probably under the cloak of real “darkness” as far as true Biblical belief is concerned. It was sad to hear it.
Great Britain in the past produced great leaders of Christianity…..the Wesley brothers, Charles Spurgeon, Hudson Taylor who establised a mission effort in China, George Whitefield, John Newton who wrote “Amazing Grace”, William Wilburforce who led Britain’s fight to abolish slavery, and who can forget “Chariots of Fire” the film that followed Eric Lidell, the supreme track athlete in the 1924 Olympics who became a missionary to China and died there at a young age. All these were strong Christian leaders in Britain in former times. Now their legacies are basically dead or dying.

A few interesting news junkie articles for March 21. (google)

1. Will Union Fight be the Dems waterloo? (by Jack Kelly, Pittsburg Post Gazette March 21 2011)

2. Now is the time to defund NPR by Juan Williams in The Hill, March 21, 2011 (very interesting op ed by William, a really good journalist)

3. Polling the No-Fly Zone (Alexis Levinson) US citizens support NOFLY zone according to lastest Rasmussen poll)

4. Necropsy being performed on celebrated polar bear (AP March 21)
(I was so sad to hear about Knut the ploar bear’s death at the Berlin Zoo a couple of days ago…sudden death in view of his many admirers who have flocked to the Zoo since he was born there and his mother rejected him and zookeepers raised him. I bought a picture book about Knut for my great nephews and I do not have the heart to tell them about Knut’s death.)

1.

YOU MIGHT BE INSANE———————–

IF—–you deliberatly kill many of your own citizens and then haul their dead bodies to the sites of Tomahawk missile strikes and weep and wail about the “civilian casualties”. That is what Muammar Ghadaffi has done. That, after having his own army troops fire from tanks and artillery into neighborhoods in cities like Bengazi, the last hold- out for Libyans who have tried to overthrow the MadMan who has ruled Libya as a dictator for over 40 years….after taking power in a military coup and never allowing anything close to a free election in all those years.
You may indeed be insane….or it is more likely that you are a Lunatic in the worst sense of that word.
I have been thinking about a long informative piece I read some months back about a tenet of the Muslim religion…that of marrying cousins and other close family members. I looked up the subject of the Muslim practice of cousins marrying first cousins and found one article in the “UK London Mail” and another longer article in www.rightsidenews.com that refreshed my memory.
The “Mail” article quoted British Environmental Minister Phil Woolas who commented on the surge of birth defects among British Muslim immigrants. Because of centuries of this close relative marriages among Muslims, there are now serious impacts on their sanity, intelligence, health….. and on their surroundings. The most famous cases of inbreeding and its catastrophic effects comes from ancient Egypt where intermarriage in close families in several Pharoanic dynasties caused the collapse of those dynasties after a couple of hundred years. In order to preserve their power, the Pharoahs often married their own sisters or half-sisters. After a handful of generations the offspring were mentally and physically unfit to rule. Close consanguine marriage between brothers and sisters was also practiced among the native Hawaiians. There were genetic consequences in that group of people also. The first outsiders who came to Hawaii were stunned to see this practice among the Hawiian ruling families.

“Statistical research on Arabic countries shows that up to 34% of all marriages in Algiers are consanguine (blood related). 46% in Bahrain, 33 % in Egypt, 80% in Nubia, 60% in Jordan, 64% in Kuwait, 42% in Lebanon, 48% in Libya, 47% in Mauritania, 54% in Quatar, 67% in Saudi Arabia, 63% in Sudan, 40% in Syria, 39% in Tunisia, 54% in the United Arab Emiratges, and 45% in Yemen.(Reproductive Health Journal, 2009 Consanguinity and reproductive health among Arabs.)

Studies conducted on consanguinity among Arasb/Muslims show several disturbing trends.
1. Low intelligence among those whose families are blood- related by marriages of too- closely related relatives
2. Mental and Physical diseases and death.

What caught my attention in thinking of the seemingly insane Ghadaffi, are these statistics found in professional medical journals.
“The clinical observations indicated that depression is very high in some communities where the consanguinity of marriages is also high.” (Indian Journal of Psychiatry 2009. “Relationship between consanguinity and depression in a south Indian population” (this is the Asian country of India)

“The increased risk of insanity amlong children of marriages between cousins might explain why immigrant patients are stressing the psychiatric system and are strongly over-represented among insane criminals….in Sct Hans Hospital which has the biggest ward for clinically insane crininals in Denmark, more than 40 percent of the patients have an immigrant background.” (Kristeligt Dagbald, 26/6 2007. “Ethnic minorities overrepresented among the criminal insane.”

(Anyone who wants to read the complete article can google “Muslim Inbreeding: Impacts on intelligence, sanity, health and society” Tuesday, August 10 2010 by Nicholas Sennels.)

The recent…and past actions of Muammar Ghadaffi are an eerie reminder of what the scientists have said about the catastrophic effects of the practice of close, consanguine marriages in the Muslim world and the percentages of such relationships listed in an above paragraph are mind- boggling for many of the middle eastern nations.

In a guardian.co.uk article of March 20 (today) Liam Fox has written that the fly over action by united nations France, Britain and the USA may include targeting Ghadaffi. Coalition forces have been accused of disproportionate action against Tripoli…perhaps in an attempt to kill Gadhaffi.
One quote from Liam Fox’s piece says “Critics claim that the coalition of the willing may have been acting disprorportionately and had come perilously close to making Ghadaffi’s departure an explicit goal of UN policy.”

I have been thinking that the only real way to end the civil war in Libya is to kill Ghadaffi or capture him and turn him over to the International Court of Law for trial for crimes against his own people and the people of many other nations. After Libya was bombed badly in 1986 after intelligence showed that it was Libya behind the terrorist killings in a German nightclub that killed Americans and others, within 2 years after the bombing ordered by President Reagan, Ghadaffi ordered the bombing of the flight that exploded over Lockerbie,Scotland. His seeming insanity showed his inclinations for murder and terrorism again.
Now as he wails on international televsion about civilian casualties……he has no connection at all to his own massive crimes of violence and murder against his OWN people who have been forced (Libyan government says they are volunteers) to become “human shields” on the grounds of his compound.
Is this the reasoning of a man who is sane?
I think he is as “out of his mind” as other evil dictators of history… in the same camp as Stalin, Hitler, Ceaucescu, Saddam Hussein—-all the bloody killers of their own people in the long history of the world.

And I wonder about the inbreeding that has gone into the Ghadaffi clan in Libya.

SATURDAY UPDATE: BRITS FRENCH US HIT LIBYA

Two afternoon articles about developments in Libya:

1. “US Cruise Missiles Hit Targets in Libya”
abcnews.

2. Allies Launch Force As Ghadaffi Hits Rebels”
by Ryan Lucas and Hadeel Al-Shalchi

If Ghadaffi didn’t believe the UN would enforce its will he can now think again. This must be the first UN action since the first Iraq war (1992) or Korea (1950) Usually the UN sits still and just talks about doing something but this time they acted.
Hopefully they will take out Mr. Ghadaffi so he cannot wreak his vengeance on anyone who supported the rebels. And he would….it could be a horrendous bloodbath if he is not captured or killed. All his aides as well.
