I have been mulling over this subject (two murders) for quite some time now. I refer to the murders in one week of the Kansas abortion doctor (George Tiller) and the two soldiers in the Deep South (Alabama or Arkansas).
Both murders, as are any murders, are the most heinous acts and I would be in favor of the death penalty for premeditated murders… and also for rape, especially, the rape of a child.
The way these two murders were treated is what has caused me to think about both of them a lot.
The murder of Dr. Tiller was heavily publicized by the mainstream media. His death was mourned by the media as the greatest tragedy in recent history. Pro-Choicers went bonkers over the murder of Dr. Tiller. It was carried on the mainstream media news for at least two weeks after it occurred. On the other hand, the murder of the two soldiers ….a murder perpetrated by a recent radical Islamic convert who is an American citizen, was barely covered at all…in fact the biggest m.s.m. paper (New York Times) buried the story a few days after it happened on the inside section or way in the back part of one of the sections….it was of little consequence to the NYT and other mainstream outlets. There was much comment about Dr. Tiller’s murder from President Barack Obama but little or nothing about the murders of the American soldiers.
The definition of "terrorism" has changed greatly since 9-11-2001, when our nation was attacked by radical Wahabist men from Saudi Arabia who comandeered huge airliners and flew them into the Twin Towers in New York, into the Pentagon building in Washington, D.C. and the one that was probably aimed at the White House in Washington, went down in a field in rural Pennsylvania after passengers courageously attacked the terrorists. 9-11- 2001 was called an act of terrorism for awhile… but as the years passed, the concept of the Islamic terrorists’ goals to kill innocent people in this country and other western countries has been modified til it is no longer called "terrorism" but is defined now by our new secretary for homeland security as something like "foreign disasters".
Surely both of these two murders were acts of terrorism. I cannot help but wonder what this huge disconnect regarding the definition of "terrorism" will mean for this nation….especially if the radical Islamists who are sworn to violent "jihad" and the desire to kill Americans or anyone connected with America….is given short shrift by our present Leader and the present administration and Congress….. especially if this nation is attacked once again by similar acts of terrorism…or worse, involving "dirty nuclear bombs" on American soil and in the largest American cities, a’ la the attacks that Israel has experienced for years in marketplaces, theaters, malls, schools and places of worship. How will this affect our way of life if we suddenly are subjected to the same sorts of violence wreaked in the Israelis for decades? Will we find out what Martial Law is all about? Will our staggering economy be ruined completely for many decades? Will we see the rapid decline of our nation that has been a world leader for so long? One only has to review the downfall over the years since WW2 of countries like England and France and other European nations that once exerted leadership in the world.
We Americans cannot even conceive of the sort of life we would be living ….brought upon us by continuing acts of terrorism ( no I mean "foreign disasters"). Even as we watch the unfolding events in Iran concerning the citizens who are revolting against what they see as a "fixed election"….with little or no support or encouragement from the American President…we are left to wonder about our own future. Will it be a future that is guided by the defense of liberty? Will it be a casual descent into unknown socialistic/marxist changes that we have never been able to visualize in our own country? Will the horrendous descent into impossible national indebtedness be the source of our ultimate downfall as a world power? Will we find ourselves in the same messes as the European nations that have incurred changes brought on by uncontrolled immigration, both legal and illegal? It is chilling to anticipate our nation following in the footsteps of a present day Netherlands or France or Germany or England where uncontrolled immigration and unsolvable fiscal problems have already changed, forever, the face of these once great nations in Europe…nations whose "chestnuts" we pulled out of the fires of WW 1 and WW2 not so many years ago.
It has been weighing on my mind for a long time and will continue to do so.
