April 24 is turning out to be a very gray, gloomy, rainy day but rain is needed to wash things up and make the trees, grass, shrubs and spring flowers burst forth, with a little added sunshine and warmth. I know that farmers who are eager to seed fields do not like a day or two of rain but….we all take what is given to us and nothing we do can change the rain or the sun or the clouds on these days of spring. My solution to a day like today……lunge for the recliner as soon as lunch is finished and pop on the DVD of "Ballykissangel" I have been graciously loaned by a good friend. That was such a delightful BBC series that used to appear on our PBS station some years back. Watching the episodes again is a perfect way to spend a comfy day when it is gloomy, damp and gray.
A couple of days ago I made a list for a blog and that is what I am covering even if it is a bit of warmed – over "news". It was the day after the Pennsylvania primary election in which Hillary Clinton got a 10% victory over Barack Obama. The amazing thing about Clinton’s big win is that Obama had outspent her hugely in ads,and other things that take mega-bucks. He was really supposed to win in the "white wine" suburbs of the bigger cities and he did not…Hillary did. He lost big-time in the "angry" rural counties , even in the home county of his Pennsylvania chairperson, Senator Bob Casey. So much for Obama’s big advantage! In an article about the primary in POLITICO, one person who responed to the essay said this: Her name is given only as "Sheanne" but what she says sums up the situation quite well. The article she commented on was titled "Why Clinton Won In Pennsylvania" I quote "Sheanne": "Clinton won in Pennsylvania because the blue-collar workers will not be razzled and dazzled by Obama’s rock smart image. He recruits young voters whose parents are still paying their {childrens’} way and are ignorant of struggling workers. She {Hillary} showed us that no matter how much you belittle her, knock her down, lie about her, she brushes herself off and continues fighting for what she believes in. Obama, on the other hand, when things don’t go his way, sets up his carnival show in another state. Bye-Bye, Obama."
Personally, I do not think Obama is at all ready to assume the mantle of the Presidency. His experience in the Senate is so thin you can see right through it. He has failed to take stands on important senate issues in order to protect his political future which is to run for the presidency. God help us all, if he should be elected as president. A man who gets testy when he cannot eat his waffles without being asked a question by eager media people (they who have supported his campaign all along) is not quite ready for prime time. His reaction to the questioning of Charlie Gibson and George Stephanopoulos also shows how thin his "armor" is…he fell apart when asked questions on personal issues voters want to know about. Now he has agreed to do an interview with Chris Wallace of "FOXNews Sunday" and that is going to be an interesting encounter!!! Will he honor his promise to Bill O’Reilly also? It’s iffy as far as I can see.
DRAMATIC RESCUE BY UNWITTING POSTAL WORKER: Just a few days ago, a city letter carrier in one of the bigger cities was on her route delivering the mail when she looked up to see a baby falling from an open window. It was a several – story drop and she reacted by putting out her hands and catching this child before it would have crashed to its certain death on the concrete sidewalk. The worst part of the incident was that the mother of the child did not even react as though she was undone by what happened with her baby; she did not express any gratitute to the people who helped the postal worker nor did she act like she would change her ways as far as allowing a young baby to get near an open window in a very high apartment building. What is wrong with her?
EXOTIC DANCERS: On a noontime program on local radio, a woman was interviewed on the subject of prostitution. She made a statement that any place of entertainment which has "exotic dancers" is essentially a place of open prostitution. I thought of "The Northern" on 10 th Street in Fargo and today think of an item in April 24′s paper about a man who has been accused of "sexual assault" with one of the exotic dancers in Fargo….it did not say where but I am assuming it is at "the Northern".
INTERESTING BLOG: "REQUENTLY WRONG, NEVER IN DOUBT: One of the other blogs on Areavoices had an interesting entry about the cover of the TIME magazine which showed a replica of the military men raising the flag on Iwo Jima (something younger members of our society seem ignorant of)…TIME superimposed in the place of the flag, an evergreen tree causing Veterans of WW2 to become very upset over the magazine cover, and why not? To equate what WW2 veterans did in the Pacific Theater with going "green" and being "more environmentally adequate", is about as ludicrous as one can get. "Wodoubt’s" blog is timely and has an interesting news article linked to it; I would advise reading it. You can find it on the "Lifestyle" blog section of Areavoices. There are some interesting comments on that blog also. Read it all!!!
ANOTHER LAWSUIT BY THE FARGO FREETHINKERS: Oh Lord! Do they not have anything better to do than meet each other in some downtown Fargo coffeeshop on Sunday mornings at the appointed hour of "worship" in churches and synagogues and dream up another reason for a lawsuit against the city of Fargo in regard to the Ten Commandments monument which still remains on the lawn of the Fargo City Hall????? These people remind me of a bulldog who will not let go of an old rag and can be lifted off the ground by the old rag!!!! I heard an interview with Jon Lindgren, Fargo’s former mayor who was never bothered enough to bring up the 10 Commandments monument in all the years he WAS the mayor (it would not have won him any votes so…….draw your own conclusions. ) The interview caused me to actually feel pity for this poor benighted individual who must make himself important to something or someone.
Now it is time to recline and be delighted by another episode (or episodes, if I can stay awake) of "Ballykissangel". I have totally poured out my "Pot of Pourey".
I couldn’t figure out that Mother either. Hopefully Child Protective Services will keep an eye on her. As I undestood it, the child crawled on a bed to access the open window. Guardian Angels were working overtime!
Yup, It’s dreary here too..I am happy as long as the snow stays away!
