It’s happened again. It is 3:35 a.m. and I am not asleep. I fell asleep easily after being horrified by the finale of "The Murder Room" on PBS’s "Mystery" last night. But then I heard something. And I was walking through neighborhoods in south Fargo, knocking on doors and smiling at the people who opened the doors. No, it’s a dream— but it is so real and I can still hear and see a lady in a red dress talking about a product I cannot live without. Not again! The TV is on and I wake from my dream to realize that my Room-Mate of 40+ years has also been awake and has turned on the TV for a pacifier and sleep-inducer. I probably woke him up with my nocturnal snuffles and snorts brought on by the dream walk in south Fargo. It worked; he is breathing deeply and is sleeping like a baby and I am roused from sleep and begin the Midnight Mambo…downstairs to the computer where I check the early edition of e mail and read the online FORUM for Monday. An e mail from a Florida acquaintance leads to two new and interesting websites being recommended, the better to follow Elections 2006. I mambo into the kitchen to get a banana and a glass of milk (lots of natural tryptophan, but I wish I could find a chunk of turkey breast–even more tryptophan.) Now I have to brush my teeth again to flush the milk and banana away. Now I am more awake than ever. I contemplate making a cup of Sleepytime Tea but know that that will lead to a trip to the bathroom in less than an hour. I know what I will do…back upstairs (to another bedroom so I don’t have to listen to the lady in the red dress on TV) to read entries from the Journals of Lewis and Clark—and if that doesn’t lull me to sleep, I can always get the telephone book to read. Nighty-night!
